Fisher Band is made up of fifth graders. They have lessons once a week on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, or percussion.
This year fourth-graders are learning how to play the Xaphoon. It's a recorder-like instrument with elements of both the saxophone and clarinet. Our focus will be on learning how to play an instrument, how to practice, and how to read music.

How to Practice
Practicing is a skill that takes a while to master.
The best way to practice is frequently for short bursts, instead of every now and then for a longer time.
Make sure to warm up before you start practicing.
Don't just run through the exercises. Look at the rhythm, the notes, and think about fingerings and your breath.
Some music needs to be broken down and tried many times, others might only need to be reviewed.
Remember to keep good posture for good breaths.
